17 Jul An 8,800 Mile Away “Home Away from Home”
“Can you recall the biggest, warmest and most sincere hug you’ve ever received? That’s what Ronald McDonald House of Amarillo and its entire team feels like. Words won’t ever express the feeling that Ronald Mc Donald House in Amarillo and its team brought into our life, but we will try because they deserve the recognition from Melbourne to Amarillo and back – a million times over!
In a moment when our lives changed unexpectedly with the early arrival of our sons Obed-Oliver and Bobbi-Beckett, we found ourselves being encouraged to visit Ronald McDonald House. Up to 15 hours a day in NICU and 4 trips back and forth from our hotel started to take its toll and we gave into the sensitive invitation to visit Ronald McDonald House.

Being 8800 miles away from our home, we didn’t realize how much we would need the support from the House and team until we succumbed and accepted the support.
The soul food, the accessories, the smile that would meet us with a warm car ride to the hospital’s front doors on snow days, or at reception in the middle of the night when we were making our way back in from the hospital. The laughter, the hug when you needed one, the exceptional smiles and deep belly laughter Jackie was able to bring into our life day after day (in a time where things could feel flat),
Haley’s impeccable logistics and admin support was imperative to our success in bringing our family home.
Immigration in the USA and Australia is no joke and the hand holding that the team provided us, whilst also caring and understanding our situation of babies in NICU was first class.
In a weird way, we believe the universe was supporting us by bringing our beautiful boys into this world a little early, so we could experience and receive the guidance and support from the team at Ronald McDonald House Amarillo.
You all deserve nothing but celebration, pats on the back and positive attention. You are changing lives in a way that I hope many don’t have to experience, but when and if they do, they will feel the world’s biggest and warmest hug.”
